Show Us Your Shorts film competition entries now open

It’s time again for Sunraysia’s talented young film-makers to put together their latest works of art as part of Mildura Rural City Council’s FReeZA Show Us Your Shorts film competition.

An initiative of Council’s Youth Engagement Services team, the competition is free to enter and open to all secondary school-age people who live, work or study in the Mildura Council area.

Entries are open until Friday 1 October with $300 on offer for the winner and $200 for the Peoples’ Choice winner.

Films must be produced in 2021 and be between three and 10 minutes long. Entries this year must be submitted online via WeTransfer. A full list of eligibility criteria and instructions on how to enter are available at mildura.vic.gov.au/FilmComp.

Councillor for Community Health and Wellbeing Cyndi Power said the popular competition was a great opportunity for local young film-makers to get their works seen by a wider audience.

“Creating short films is an increasingly popular way for young people to develop and explore their creative side, and as we’ve seen from previous years’ competitions, there are some amazingly talented young people in our community,” Cr Power said.

“The Show Us Your Shorts film competition allows these talented young film-makers a chance to showcase their works of art and go into the running for some great prizes.”

Entries will be judged by an independent panel ahead of a special public screening of all films at the Mildura Arts Centre at 7pm on Friday 8 October, allowing film-makers to see their works on the big screen, subject to COVID-19 restrictions at the time.

The Peoples’ Choice winner will be determined by popular vote on the night of the screening, or based on likes on Council’s YouTube channel if the public screening can’t go ahead.
