Meeting highlights

New council encouraged to continue smart financial habits The incoming council will be asked to embrace the recommendation to continue the actions outlined in the Performance Improvement Order to help secure long term success. A Financial Improvement Plan was also adopted which will address Council’s financial sustainability over the next several years.

Business as usual - new Business Continuity Plan adopted A new policy has been adopted to ensure Council’s delivery of key services can be maintained in the event of a crisis or unforeseen event such as the pandemic. For more information about how the Business Continuity Policy relates to the current COVID-19 outbreak, read this media release. Local business at the heart of new Procurement Policy A new Procurement Policy has been developed that focuses on supporting local and indigenous businesses. The policy also ensures Council maintains value for money, efficiency and ethics when procuring goods and services. To view the policy, visit page 52 of the meeting attachments. (PDF 40.8MB)

Funding applications to be submitted for road rehabilitation Council will apply for funding from the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Round 3 program for the following projects:

Kelly's Plains Road, Armidale rehabilitation - $980,000 Lagoon Road, Black Mountain rehabilitation and seal - $1,600,000 Moredun Road, Ben Lomond rehabilitation - $2,210,000 Tubbamurra Road, Guyra rehabilitation - $1,150,000 Kempsey Road, Location 1 - Blackbird Flat - $2,996,000

Council takes action on climate change

Council has become a member of Climate Emergency Australia which will help broaden the organisation’s understanding of climate change risks and how to adapt to changing conditions. It will help ensure Council’s actions contribute to reducing emissions through more sustainable practices. Draft Tourism Strategy - The 2021 - 2033 Draft Tourism Strategy has been created to raise the region's profile and boost the number of visitors to the region. Sewer Policy - This policy outlines Council's responsibilities for sewer management. New fees for food vans - This policy proposes a flat rate fee of $90 per day per van for food vans on Council-owned land and parks (excluding the Beardy Street Mall).
