Maroondah households should mark in their calendars Tuesday 10 August 2021, as the night to complete their 2021 Census form.
If they haven’t already, residents will start receiving a letter from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which includes a Census number and details about how to complete the form online. The letter also contains details about where to seek assistance, if required.
The Census provides a snapshot of Australia and highlights how we are changing as a country. The data creates a picture of our economic, social and cultural make-up, with the information used to inform decisions about transport, schools, healthcare, roads and buildings.
In 2021, the data will be more important than ever, as it will provide insights into how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives.
Maroondah Mayor, Councillor Kylie Spears, said the data is essential for all levels of government.
“While most people are aware the Census informs decisions more broadly, they might not know the data is also used extensively at local or community level,” Cr Spears said.
“The Census is not just about the numbers we see, but the stories it tells us. Our programs, capital works and decision-making are all better-informed if the data is accurate and everyone participates in the Census.
“I encourage our community to keep an eye out in their letterbox for their Census number, then complete the form online.”
Unlike previous years, households will have several days to complete their form, instead of a single night. Though, they must still record their details, such as who was staying in their household, as it relates to Census night. They must complete the form accordingly, even if they are in transit or visiting a friend on 10 August.
