A community-acquired COVID-19 case is currently under investigation in Cairns. The person is a taxi driver and was potentially infectious in the community for 10 days.
Tropical Public Health Services is working with the driver and taxi company to identify contacts.
If you have ANY symptoms of COVID-19, please get tested immediately and isolate until you receive your results.
To minimise the risk of the virus spreading in our communities, Cairns and Yarrabah local government areas have been placed in a mandatory 3-day lockdown from 4pm today (Sunday, 8 August)
You can only leave your home (including temporary accommodation such as a hotel) for essential purposes:
– get essential goods or services, including healthcare
– exercise within a 10 km radius of your home with one other person or members of your household
– attend essential work or volunteering – if you can work from home, you must work from home
– attend school or childcare – school and childcare is only open for children of essential workers or vulnerable children.
Please share this information with friends, family and colleagues. The more vigilant we are, the more likely we will be to minimise the spread of the virus.
