The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has drafted a new Youth Action Plan for 2022-2027 which is now available for the community to view and comment on before it is finalised.

The Youth Action Plan 2022 – 2027 has been developed to reflect the perspectives of youth in our community, with the Shire of Augusta Margaret River receiving over 450 submissions from community members.

Extensive community consultation took place from March to June 2021, including: a verbal survey, engagement pop ups at various community events, two written Your Say surveys, a youth summit, Lego workshop, multiple stakeholder meetings, mural workshop, video competition and feedback from the 2040 Our Place workshops and 2020 Councillor for a Day initiative.

The Margaret River Youth Advisory Council (YAC) also played an important role in the engagement and development process of the draft plan.

Coordinator of Community Planning and Development, Jason Cleary said that the draft Youth Plan identified four key umbrella goals for 2022 – 2027, including:

Celebration, Acceptance and Support Education, Training and Employment Movement, Transport and Facilities Community Contribution and Leadership

“Underpinned by a range of objectives spanning mental health support through to youth-centric events, local training opportunities and much more, the draft Youth Action Plan is a plan informed by youth, for youth,” he said.

“We’re now at the stage of finalising the plan before it is endorsed and ready to be actioned, so I encourage young people and those engaged with young people to take a look and have their final say in creating this collective vision for youth for the next five years.”

The Youth Action Plan 2022 – 2027 will replace the Strengthening Youth Plan 2018 – 2022. Visit www.yoursay.amrshire.wa.gov.au/youth-plan to read the draft Youth Action Plan 2022 – 2027 and have your say before Friday 10 September 2021.
