Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller welcomes the recent announcement by the NSW Government that unoccupied construction sites across the Liverpool Local Government Area can resume at a 50 per cent capacity from Wednesday 11 August 2021.
One of the biggest construction sites set to resume is Liverpool Civic Place, Liverpool City Council’s proposed mix-used development in partnership with Built Development. The project recently surpassed a significant milestone after achieving Development Application approval for Phase A, Council Works.
Mayor Waller said the resumption of work across construction sites in Liverpool is a good decision, however, building site managers will need to ensure due diligence when it comes to COVID-19 safety.
“Everyone in some way has been touched by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Waller said. “The temporary halt of construction across much of Western Sydney has significantly impacted Liverpool within a region brimming with development opportunity.”
“We welcome the opportunity for our construction workers to pick up their tools, albeit in a limited capacity. Demonstrating that COVID-19 safe measures are in place and being followed and workers are meeting their vaccination conditions is critical to ensuring construction sites remain open.”
Mayor Waller said workplaces continue to be identified as places where the virus can easily spread so it is essential for construction workers to be vaccinated.
“I’m encouraging local construction workers to come along to one of Liverpool’s vaccination hubs and get the jab so they can return to their work while keeping their fellow employees and families safe.
“Our walk-in pop-up vaccination hubs are now up and running in four community facilities across the region and have had a very successful opening week with over 540 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccinations administered.
“We are expecting even more residents to take up the opportunity this week as a more convenient alternative to get vaccinated as they go about their day,” Mayor Waller said.
