During lockdown we are keen to offer ways to help you get outside and enjoy your garden.

So, we are bringing back our popular Backyard Habitat program to help you create a native habitat garden at home to attract birds, bees, butterflies and other native species.

To relaunch the program we will be delivering free plants during August and September to the first 1,000 households to register. Priority will be given to those that didn’t apply for the first round last year.

Those who sign up to the program will receive three native plants with contactless delivery to their home.

Participants will be asked to send photos of their plants once they’re established and thriving.

Almost 3,000 plants that our Bushcare volunteers have caringly propagated from locally sourced seeds at our community nurseries at Manly Dam and Curl Curl are ready to find happy homes!

Due to COVID-19, our volunteers are at home and we are not able to use these plants as intended – including those we would normally use for our National Tree Day events, new plantings to help regenerate public bushland, parks and reserves, and as gifts for new Australian citizens.

Benefits of the program:

Receive free native plants from the Council nursery, matched to your backyard/garden, with contactless delivery by Council staff to your homeHelp create a wildlife corridor for our native animals to move safely between our bushland reservesEnjoy having native wildlife in your own backyard or garden.Get advice on how to create a native habitat specific to your backyard or gardenLearn from tips and information on how to grow plants and manage weeds more effectively

Spaces are strictly limited and bookings are essential.

Applicants must complete the online registration form, providing requested information prior to receiving their plants.
