With a rich cultural landscape and sporting history, Ivanhoe Park is an important and diverse open space for the people of Manly and surrounds.

Featuring Manly Oval’s wide-open spaces, Ivanhoe Park Botanic Gardens, the Scout Hall, connecting paths, quiet places for reflection and many heritage gates and other treasures, the park also houses the area’s most significant variety of large trees – making it Manly’s Green Heart.

Over many years, we have been working with our community to plan for its future.

In August 2019, following much hard work by the community, Ivanhoe Park (including Manly Oval) cultural landscape was listed as a heritage item on the State Heritage Register and Council resolved to prepare a Masterplan, a Conservation Management Plan and a Plan of Management.

After two workshops with a community Design Reference Group, a community survey, stakeholder meetings, site visits of all facilities and extended heritage research we present the community’s shared vision for the park.

“Ivanhoe Park will be a welcoming gateway and destination for community enjoyment celebrating heritage, environment, sport and recreation. A well-maintained place of sanctuary, reflection and learning, close to the heart of Manly.”

A draft Masterplan, a site-specific Plan of Management and a Conservation Management Plan are now on public exhibition and we invite the community to provide feedback.

While respecting Ivanhoe Park’s heritage significance, it’s importance to local sports and recreation and current status as the green heart of Manly, the draft Masterplan proposes a range of improvements that focus on:

enhancing the park’s overall appearance and presentationimproving connections between the sporting and garden precinctscreating safer and more accessible spaces for all park usershelping reconnect the park to Manly Town Centre, Wharf and adjoining open spacesproviding fit for purpose facilities that will better cater for current and future generations.

The site-specific draft Ivanhoe Park Plan of Management (PoM)  sets out how this public land is intended to be used, managed, maintained and enhanced in the future.

Overarching both the draft Masterplan and Plan of Management is the Ivanhoe Park Conservation Management Plan (CMP) that will guide the ongoing care of the place and ensure the retention of its heritage significance.

An online information session will be held on Thursday, 2 September from 6 to 7pm. This is an opportunity to hear from the project team and ask questions.

The community can register for the information session and comment on all these documents on our Your Say pages that set out all the information in this detailed and important project.
