NSW Health has reported no new cases of COVID-19 in the Byron Shire, or broader Northern Rivers area in the last 24 hours.
Three testing centres will be open in the shire this weekend and residents are asked to continue to get tested.
The centres are at:
Byron Central Hospital on Ewingsdale Road (Saturday and Sunday 9am – 5pm) Cavanbah Centre on Ewingsdale Road (Saturday and Sunday 8am – 1pm) Bangalow Showground (Saturday 9am – 12noon)“To hear there are no more positive cases in the area is great news but it really is a waiting game to see if any more emerge over the next several days,” Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon, said.
“No traces of COVID-19 have shown up in the tests that have been done on sewage from our four treatment plants and this is another good sign but people should understand the results that we are seeing at the moment are from samples that were taken two days ago,” Mayor Lyon said.
“The majority of people in our Shire are going out of their way to comply with the Public Health Orders and this is fantastic.
“We all know that the only way to get businesses open, children back to school and some semblance of normal in our lives again is to do everything we can to stop any spread of COVID-19 and that means obeying the rules that are in place at the moment.
“I am aware that the police will be out and about on the weekend so this is not the time to plan a sneaky surf at Lennox Head or Cabarita,” Mayor Lyon said.
The Resource Recovery Centre at Myocum will be closed this weekend, reopening on Monday to commercial customers only.
