Council welcomes 19 new citizens who took the pledge from their loungerooms

Today, Council welcomed 19 new Australian citizens to the community in an intimate online citizenship ceremony.

Lockdown has thrown Council some interesting challenges but we didn't want logistics stopping our community members from feeling the joy of a beautiful citizenship ceremony.

Mayor Michael Regan preceded the ceremony and there were smiles, and even a little laughter, as whole families joined to watch their loved ones take their citizenship pledge - a legal requirement to complete the process - from their loungerooms. 

Council will continue to work with the Department of Home Affairs to facilitate online ceremonies during the COVID-19 lockdown for Northern Beaches residents.
