The Nogoa River walking trail between Campbell Street and the lower weir is closed until further notice due to the risk of falling trees after a hazard reduction burn.
People are advised not to enter the walking trail. Signage is in place.
Last weekend’s hazard reduction burn on the western side of the Nogoa River between Campbell Street and the lower weir was successful in reducing the bushfire hazard.
Crews always make every attempt in their planning and on the day to keep smoke to a minimum. Unfortunately, an unexpected change in wind direction challenged them this time and council understands the inconvenience smoke has caused to some individuals.
These hazard burns are very important, however, to mitigate the greater risk of unplanned bushfires. Further hazard reduction burns are planned in other locations in Emerald with specific dates and locations to be advised.
Council thanks the community for their understanding.
