It’s less than two months to go until the local Government elections and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River is asking community members to consider nominating themselves. Four of the seven Councillor positions will become vacant in October, and newly elected incumbents will be appointed for a four year term. A range of resources are available for people considering nominating, including two information sessions as follows:

WALGA Election Candidate Information Briefing Webinar Wednesday 18 August 2021, 5.00pm Webinar registration link here   WAEC and Shire of Augusta Margaret River Information Briefing Tuesday 24 August 2021, 5.30pm Margaret River Council Chambers No RSVP required, enquiries can be directed to 9780 5200   Prospective candidates should review the information available on the WA Electoral Commission website (www.elections.wa.gov.au) and on the Shire’s website at https://www.amrshire.wa.gov.au/council/your-council/becoming-a-councillor as well as ensuring they are registered on the electoral roll by 27 August 2021. The nomination period for candidates will run from Thursday 2 September until 4pm on Thursday 9 September 2021.

The election is set to be held on Saturday 16 October 2021, and the new Council will subsequently vote to determine who will serve as President and Deputy President at their first meeting.
