New lease on life for Upper Spring Creek Road after $600k upgrade

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has completed a $618,000 rehabilitation of Upper Spring Creek Road east of Clifton to improve its quality and increase safety.
TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Councillor Carol Taylor said the road was constructed many years ago and was in poor condition.
“The project involved reinstating drainage and reconstructing the pavement in three separate sections totalling over 4.2 kilometres, as well as resealing the bitumen,” Cr Taylor said.
Construction commenced in February 2021 and was completed in June following delays caused by wet weather.
Cr Taylor said Council is responsible for maintaining more than 6,500 kilometres of sealed and unsealed roads and they are a critical asset across the entire TRC area.
“It can be challenging to continually maintain the network but roads are essential to thriving and well connected communities. That’s why Council is committed to repairing our roads to a standard that meets the needs of our regional communities in a cost effective way for the benefit of all,” Cr Taylor said.
“This financial year Council has committed $25 million to rehabilitating and resealing our sealed road network, gravel resheeting and renewing asphalt surfaces across the Toowoomba Region,” she said.
“This is a significant spend, which underlines our commitment to maintaining and improving the road network, especially in regional areas.”
Additional resealing of Upper Spring Creek Road is programmed for this financial year.
“The rehabilitation of Upper Spring Creek Road was funded through the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council would not be able to deliver the volume of road works required across the Region without the financial assistance of the Australian and Queensland Governments and we’re very thankful for the funding support.”
