Vivid mini village tour to Kerang

Published on 18 August 2021

What would a town look like if it had everything you could imagine? If it had an octopus, helicopters, snowy mountains, or even racetracks instead of roads?

The Gannawarra Shire community will have the opportunity to view a mini village like no other they have seen before in the upcoming exhibition of Vivid Living’s Culture and Art Group’s mini village display this month.

Hosted by the Gannawarra Library Service, the Vivid mini village will be on display at the Sir John Gorton Library, Kerang from Monday, 30 August to Saturday, 18 September, before continuing to tour onto Echuca and Swan Hill.

The mini village is constructed from materials, such as cardboard, acrylic paint, cotton wool, fabric, glue, icy pole sticks, and corks.

Gannawarra Shire Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said that the mini village was initially planned as part of a long-term project for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants as part of Vivid Living’s Culture and the Arts services.

“It is great that bigger ideas for the mini village were explored and that it has since transformed into a touring art piece across regional and rural communities, showcasing what a town could look like if nothing, but creative ideas were added.”

Vivid staff members behind the development of the mini village project say that the project gave participants a new way to explore their unique ideas on how buildings are constructed in towns, in addition to providing a fun way to improve the participant's dexterity, concentration, and team-building skills.

“The mini village helps to encourage community involvement in demonstrating and exploring creative ideas,” said Mr. O’Reilly.

“Council encourages all to come along and view the display and to look at the unique concepts for how buildings and other infrastructures are constructed in the mini village and think about how that might apply in a real-life scenario.”

Visitors to the display are encouraged to take inspiration and have a go at creating or drawing their own mini village or town and sharing it to the Gannawarra Library’s Facebook page, or by emailing their drawing to [email protected].
