With the social impacts of the pandemic reaching far and wide, the need for connected, healthy and resilient communities has never been more important.
Now, we need your input to help us plan for appropriate recovery plans, programs and support-systems, as we seek to build strong, resilient communities in the face of these ongoing challenges. Over the past 18 months, we have consulted extensively and carefully developed the Draft Maroondah Liveability Wellbeing and Resilience Strategy 2021-2031.
This key document seeks to incorporate long-term directions for community recovery, while outlining action plans with a focus on health and wellbeing, disability, and active and healthy action. Additionally, the Strategy builds on the COVID-19 Recovery Plan, which Council adopted earlier this year.
Maroondah Mayor, Councillor Kylie Spears, said Council is encouraging the community to offer their views on the Draft Strategy.
“Council plays an important role in promoting healthy communities, such as through enhancing liveability, advocating for supports and showing leadership so our community can focus on their health and wellbeing,” Cr Spears said.
“So, we want to know what you like about the Strategy, or what you would change? What do you think or priorities should be? Our vision for Maroondah is a liveable, healthy and resilient community where everyone can belong thrive and grow?”
The Strategy focuses on key areas of living in Maroondah, such as promoting diversity, social inclusion and community education, as well as supporting healthy lifestyles, sustainable practices and safe neighbourhoods.
The Strategy comprises six focus areas for development:
Healthy lifestyles Liveable neighbourhoods Safe communities Social inclusion Embracing diversity Social harmsThe Strategy will provide longer-term direction for Council and covers key priorities to improve the health and wellbeing of the Maroondah community.
