UPDATE: South Burnie Foreshore Erosion Control Project

Published on 20 August 2021

In 2018 the South Burnie foreshore was significantly impacted by storm surge flooding. This resulted in damage to the Coastal Pathway, exposure of tree roots and erosion around the Romaine Creek culverts, which in turn led to dangerous holes opening up in the lawn areas nearby.

Work began earlier this year to upgrade the sea wall defences from the existing concrete sea wall near the Yacht Club through to the west side of the Reeves Street toilets.

Work involved importing and placing approximately 5000 tonnes of armour rock and constructing a new headwall for the Romaine Creek culverts.

Major works are now complete, and site re-vegetation and landscaping work will be undertaken over the coming weeks as the weather improves.

Council would like to thank the community for their patience during these works.
