City of Swan welcomes inquiry into Wooroloo bushfire

The City of Swan welcomes the recent announcement by the State Government for an independent inquiry into the devastating Wooroloo bushfire which destroyed 86 homes, and will prepare a submission.

To be led by the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authority Council, the review will examine the effectiveness of mitigation efforts prior to the bushfire, the bushfire response, fuel management and public communications during the bushfire which started on February 1, 2021.

Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Edwards said the inquiry would play a critical role in the community’s recovery process and the City’s future preparedness planning.

“We’ve witnessed community resilience at its best these past few months and our community is moving forward the best they can,” he said.

“The inquiry is another important step in the healing process.”

Mr Edwards said behind every major emergency are lessons to be learnt.

“The City of Swan is a key player in the State Government’s emergency management arrangements and our community’s preparedness,” he said.

“We hope the key finding and recommendations will help protect lives and properties in the event of another bushfire or emergency situation.”

Mr Edwards encouraged affected residents, emergency and support personnel, organisations and the general public to share their experience, photos and videos as part of the inquiry.
