Our Backyard Habitat program has seen many happy residents receive their free native plants this week straight to their front door.
3,000 plants are being delivered to 1,000 residents from Palm Beach to Manly over the next week.
Nicole from Forestville said “It was a lovely surprise to brighten the day—a beautiful personalised package of Australian natives arrived at our doorstep—just in time for spring planting this weekend. Thank you Northern Beaches Council!”
Neil from Narrabeen said “Thank you very much for my Australian natives received today. They are such a nice selection and will make a wonderful addition to the garden.”
The program encourages the community to create a native habitat garden at home, attracting birds, bees, butterflies and other native species.
Each household that signed up to the program will receive three native plants to care for, with the plants carefully selected from 53 species, depending on the resident’s location and environment.
The plants were caringly propagated by our Bushcare volunteers, using locally-sourced seeds at Council’s community nurseries at Manly Dam and Curl Curl.
Due to COVID-19, our volunteers are currently at home and were are not able to use these plants as intended; to help regenerate public bushland, parks and reserves, as well as gifts for new Australian citizens.
