Community groups across the Western Downs are being promoted to more people than ever before, thanks to Western Downs Regional Council’s digital billboards.
The two six-metre-tall double-sided LED billboards have supported more than 100 community groups to promote their events and initiatives since they were ‘switched on’ twelve months ago.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the billboards had provided another opportunity to promote the fantastic work of local community groups and raise awareness about the great things happening across the region.
“Our billboards were installed along the Warrego Highway at Chinchilla and Dalby thanks to funding from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program,” Cr McVeigh said.
“The boards were installed to improve communication channels for important community information and emergency information, Council events and programs, and promotion of our fantastic tourism experiences.
“As an additional benefit, Council offers community groups the opportunity to advertise on the billboards and has so far received 130 applications which has resulted in 102 community groups promoting on the boards across the year.
“As part of the service, Council offers its in-house marketing and design expertise to create striking billboard designs that are seen by approximately 15,000 vehicles per day across the two locations.
“We are so proud of our fantastic community groups and are committed to empowering our communities to develop local initiatives and events.”
Chinchilla MX Club Vice President Matt Stone said the Club has successfully used the billboards to promote both coaching and open days.
“Use of the boards by Chinchilla MX Club has exposed us to a potential demographic that we otherwise would not have known existed,” Mr Stone said.
This is just one way Council supports community groups through promotion, and groups are encouraged to get in touch to find out how Council can help. Council also offers several grants programs throughout the year to support various initiatives across the region.
