Mildura Rural City Council is calling for professional event organisers interested in running Mildura's annual New Year's Eve community event this year.
Expressions of interest are open until 1 September for suitably qualified organisers to produce this year's event at Nowingi Place.
Council is offering up to $40,000 to support the successful applicant depending on the programing of the event.
Councillor for Recreation and Events Liam Wood said offering the event to external organisations would provide opportunities to take on what is one of the most popular and successful community events of the year.
“This is a valuable and timely opportunity to provide a much needed boost to the events and entertainment sector, which we know has been among the hardest hit by ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns,” Cr Wood said.
“It offers the chance for a professional event organiser to take over an established, massively successful event that attracts between 4000 and 5000 people each year.
“Offering the event to an external organiser also better aligns with our Events Strategy 2025, which has a focus on Council working in a supporting and facilitating role, allowing event organisers to take on and create events that generate economic benefit for our region.”
In order to be considered for funding support, the event must be free to attend, family-friendly (smoke, alcohol and drug-free), include a headline act and a recognised children’s act.
Applications can be made using Council's grants portal at mrcc.smartygrants.com.au/NYE21, and must be completed and submitted by 4pm on 1 September.
