Construction begins of the Cohuna All Abilities Adventure Playground

Published on 25 August 2021

Gannawarra Shire families and community members will be excited to know that the Cohuna All Abilities Adventure Playground at Apex Park has officially commenced construction from Monday, 23 August.

“Throughout the design development for this playground Council was delighted to receive over 200 completed surveys, and we thank the community for their input. The new playground incorporates elements suggested that will accommodate children of all abilities and their caregivers,” said Chief Executive Officer Tom O’Reilly.

“The new playground features a carousel, seated swing, stand-up seesaw, flying fox, fencing, increased seating, and sealed footpaths for easier access by prams and wheelchairs.”

The Cohuna All Abilities Playground is part of the $3.4M Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections Project, with Council receiving a grant of $1.7M from Regional Development Victoria towards the works.

As part of the funding received, the project will integrate the new playground into the current facilities at Apex Park, including the new barbeque area, Skate park, and Cohuna Beach infrastructure.

“The development of this new playground, combined with the wonderful enhancements already completed within Apex Park, will further support the transformation of the park into a place that the entire family can enjoy together,” said Mr. O’Reilly.

Residents will be able to use the old playground during the construction of the new All Abilities playground, (when not under COVID-19 restrictions). However, once the new playground has been completed the old playground will be removed.

“The previous playground has been a popular place for community and visitor enjoyment for the last 18 years, following significant community involvement in fundraising for its construction. Council applauds the efforts of those fundraisers whose hard work commitment and generosity enabled the original playground to be built.,” said Mr. O’Reilly.

It is anticipated that the Cohuna All Abilities playground project will be completed by the end of December 2021, in time for the summer school holidays.
