Council has established a steering committee to oversee the development of the Cairns Gallery Precinct project.
Cr Max O’Halloran will chair the Cairns Gallery Precinct Project Steering Committee, which includes Mayor Bob Manning, Deputy Mayor Terry James and Cr Amy Eden.
When complete. the Cairns Gallery Precinct will connect three of Cairns’ most significant heritage public buildings – the existing Cairns Art Gallery, The Court House and the former Mulgrave Shire Council offices – into a new gallery space that will link the centre of the city to the Esplanade parkland and waterfront.
The project will have a strong connection to the region’s Indigenous community with Cairns being the principal point for the exchange and celebration of Indigenous art and culture from communities throughout Cape York and the Torres Strait.
Council has received $10 million in Federal Government funding to start the upgrade of the former Mulgrave Shire officers into gallery space.
