Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller today announced a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination hub will open at Carnes Hill Community Centre to service vulnerable community members in the Liverpool Local Government Area.

The establishment of the Aspen Medical vaccination hub was made possible following discussions between Liverpool City Council and Aspen Medical – one of Australia’s leading providers of medical services – who has been catering to the vaccination needs of vulnerable community members throughout metropolitan Sydney and regional areas.

The hub will administer Pfizer vaccinations only and operate seven days a week from Monday 6 September 2021. Members of the Liverpool community who are eligible for this service include those living with a disability, seniors, and other community members (such as carers) whose individual needs are not typically met by mainstream clinics.

Mayor Waller welcomed the addition of the new hub in Liverpool, saying it will ensure everyone who wants the COVID-19 vaccination will be able to access it regardless of age or ability.

“Not everyone can easily get to their medical centre or pharmacy or wait in line at a mass vaccination clinic. This new hub will ensure that members of our community with needs not currently being met by vaccine roll-out measures aren’t left behind.”

Mayor Waller has led a lobbying campaign in recent months, calling on the NSW Government to work with Council to bring COVID-19 vaccines closer to home for Liverpool residents.

This campaign resulted in the establishment of four walk-in AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination hubs across Liverpool last month, which have administered 1463 vaccinations so far. NSW Health has since paused the hubs until early September to focus on priority Pfizer vaccinations for 16–39-year-olds.

“With walk-in AstraZeneca vaccination hubs in Council’s community facilities set to resume in addition to this new hub, we are confident that our residents will continue to do the responsible thing and get vaccinated," Mayor Waller said.

Mayor Waller pointed to the vaccination rates at Edmondson Park where more than 90 per cent of residents have had the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccination – the highest among the suburbs in Local Government Areas of concern. Many postcodes within Liverpool now boast rates between 50 to 59 per cent for residents receiving their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination.

The Aspen Medical vaccination hub service will continue to operate according to demand. More details will be available shortly.
