The local swimming community is holding their breath for Tiffany Thomas Kane, who is swimming for a Paralympic gold medal in Tokyo on Friday night.
The 20-year-old is one of the favourites in tonight’s 200m Individual Medley – SM7 final at 7pm Sydney-time on Friday.
It’s just the start though, with Tiff also swimming in the 100m Breastroke – SB7 and 50m Butterfly - S7 next week.
Training out of the Warringah Aquatic Centre in Frenchs Forest with Warringah Aquatic Swim Club under coach Jon Bell, Tiffany’s hard work and dedication to her sport has paid high dividends.
“We’re so proud of Tiffany and thrilled to see all that training she does at our facility has paid off for her. We wish her all the best in all her races,” WAC Manager Julie Langdon said.
She won her first international medal on debut at the 2015 World Championships at age 14 and a year later won a Paralympic gold medal in the 100m breaststroke SB6 in Rio as one of Australia’s youngest athletes.
Her success has seen her competition classification increase to number 7, meaning she competes against athletes with higher physical function, but it seems that won’t stop her success.
Tiff’s Swim Club teammates are right behind her as she continues her campaign, sending messages of support and congratulations via social media. You can too! Give Tiff a shoutout via her Insta page @tthomaskane and show her that the whole Northern Beaches is behind her.
