Twenty-nine organisations across the shire will receive a total of $101,392 through ClubGRANTS funding this year, for projects that improve community wellbeing and address social issues in the shire.
Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick said despite the continuing challenges of COVID-19 disruptions to our region, it was great to see our clubs continuing to support their local community.
“As many of us have experienced over the last two years, clubs play an important role in the community,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“They provide a space where people can come together for friendship, support and a sense of belonging, and they are often the largest single employer in a regional community.
“Funding projects that don’t have clear funding paths is particularly important right now.”
The ClubGRANTS scheme, managed by Bega Valley Shire Council, is a shared NSW Government and club industry program funded by gaming machine tax on registered clubs with gaming machine profits in excess of $1 million.
The five clubs represented on the local ClubGRANTS committee with Council are Club Sapphire, Merimbula RSL, Eden Fishermen’s Club, Bermagui Country Club and Club Bega.
Some of the organisations and projects funded in 2021 include:
the Sapphire Coast Boardriders, to purchase a custom trailer which will help them move equipment to good surfing locations for training, competitions and social events Bega Valley Family Day Care, for baby and child accident prevention and first aid essentials training Eden Tourism Inc to train their Sapphire Coast Visitor Information Centre volunteers and run a story telling workshop Lifeline South Coast, to run community suicide prevention and mental health training Playability, for staff training in mental health first aid.
