Thousands flock to Coolgardie for rousing rodeo event

An impressive 177 cowboys and cowgirls competed for a slice of the $20,000 prize pool at the Coolgardie Rodeo and Ute Muster on Saturday 21 August.

The sold-out event had over 3000 local and travelling rodeo fans flocking to Coolgardie to watch the Rodeo, including Bull Riding, Barrel Racing and Bareback Bronc riding.

There were a great variety of food options, on-site camping, kids’ activities, live music, bouncy castles and a Best Dressed Cowgirl and Cowboy competition.

Coolgardie Shire President Malcolm Cullen said they were excited to host the Rodeo event, the first of its kind in the Eastern Goldfields region.

“It’s really great to see so many people enjoying themselves and the community atmosphere was amazing on the day,” said Cr Cullen. “We’re lucky to be able to welcome everyone to Coolgardie this year and give visitors the opportunity to discover the beauty Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields.”

I would like to acknowledge the effort the Outback Rodeo Committee put into organising this event and I feel certain that everyone that travelled from near and far thoroughly enjoyed the Rodeo and evening entertainment.

The Shire of Coolgardie is proud to host and contribute to the success of the Coolgardie Rodeo this year, and will continue to assist the committee in making this an annual event on the Shire’s community events calendar” he said.

Wendy Harris, winner of the Ladies Barrel Racing and Steer Undercorating event at the Rodeo said “ The Coolgardie Rodeo was fantastic, it was great to have family there from Kalgoorlie and I look forward to another Rodeo in Coolgardie, I'm very fortunate to travel this great state of ours competing in a sport that I love with my amazing horses and spending time with family and friends “

Founding Outback Rodeos Inc. committee member, Bodean Buckingham said the successful event was made possible thanks to the support from the Coolgardie Shire.

“We worked closely with the Shire CEO James Trail to coordinate the event and ensure the event runs smoothly. The event simply would not have been possible without the support of the Shire of Coolgardie,” said Mr Buckingham. “It was very fitting to hold the event at Coolgardie due to its brilliant equestrian history and their active equine community.” “I think everyone needed this event and we’re fortunate to be able to run the rodeo this year. The state champion riders put on a spectacular show, and everyone had a fantastic time.”

The Coolgardie Rodeo and Ute Muster is expected to inject a significant boost into the Coolgardie economy.
