The NSW Government has released its consultation report for the Outer Sydney Orbital Stage 2 and confirmed that the ‘Blue’ option has been identified as the preferred route for the Hume Highway to Appin Road connection.
Stakeholders, landowners and members of the community were able to provide feedback on the Outer Sydney Orbital Stage 2 during consultation held between November 2020 and January 2021.
Mayor Robert Khan said, “I’m pleased to see that the Government has listened to Council and community feedback and selected the community’s preferred choice for this important infrastructure plan.”
Transport for NSW has advised that the Blue option has been further refined in response to feedback to minimise impacts on koala habitat, whilst also avoiding land identified as having Aboriginal cultural sensitivity.
“What is critical is that Transport for NSW appropriately refines the option to address community and stakeholder concerns, particularly in protecting our beloved Koala population and cultural heritage,” said Mayor Khan.
“Pleasingly, upgrades to Picton Road, the Hume Highway and an upgraded connection between Appin Rd and Picton Road are identified as key priorities for Transport for NSW. We look forward to these critical projects being delivered urgently.”
A Consultation Outcomes Report is available on the Transport for NSW website, outlining the themes of the submissions that were received and the responses to the issues raised.
