2020 winner Ben Slater performing at Groovin’ in the Garden
Following the success of last year’s Groovin’ from the Garage competition, Western Downs Regional Council is inviting local artists to get groovin’ from home with the popular music competition returning for a second year.
Due to an overwhelming response, Council is once again delivering the digital adaption of Groovin’ into Town, offering the region’s musical talents the unique opportunity to write and showcase their own original music while partaking in friendly competition.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the initiative aimed to rejuvenate the region’s music scene whilst also bring some positivity to our communities.
“The Western Downs is an active, vibrant community and this competition offers a platform for our local artists to express their creativity to the region,” Cr Maguire said.
“Similar to last year, local artists are being asked to record and submit a video of themselves performing an original, unpublished song from home. Council will then host the finalist videos on the “Western Downs Invites You” Facebook platform.
“All selected finalists will receive a cash prize and go in the running for first, second or third place which will be determined by the community through an online voting system.
“Those who place in the top three will win gift vouchers from local businesses to further promote the importance of buying local, as well as be invited to perform live at Council’s Groovin’ in the Garden event.
“This competition gives them an opportunity to show off their talents with the community via a ‘virtual stage’, while also offering the chance to compete with other local artists and claim a prize.
“Here in the Western Downs, it’s the people that make it and we hope this program not only helps support our musical arts community, but also showcase our talented residents that contribute to the vibrancy of our region.”
The competition will be open from Friday 3 September 2021 to Friday 1 October 2021 with public voting to follow.
Residents are encouraged to like and follow ‘Western Downs Invites You’ on Facebook to view the finalist performances and keep across competition announcements.
