COMMUNITY ALERT - COLIFORM BACTERIA CONTAMINATION DETECTED IN TULLIBIGEAL TOWN WATER SUPPLY 2 Sep 2021 4:01 PM -

Recent monitoring has shown Total Coliforms bacteria to be present in the Tullibigeal town water supply system. Council is currently investigating the system to identify the source and extent of the contamination.

Residents are reminded that the Tullibigeal town water system and Gibsonvale-Kikoira pipeline are classified as non-potable and should not be used for drinking, cooking, washing raw foods (such as seafood or salads), making ice, pet’s drinking water, and cleaning teeth.

The community is advised that regular monitoring for coliforms and E. coli bacteria in the Tullibigeal town water supply is conducted by Lachlan Shire Council in conjunction with NSW Health.

Coliforms and E. coli are generally not harmful and can occur in both sewage, animal wastes and natural waters. However, the presence of these bacteria in drinking water indicates that the water may be contaminated with organisms that may cause disease.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lachlan Shire Council Infrastructure Department on 02 6895 1900.
