One of the few upsides from the Covid restrictions is that people are looking to get out and safely exercise. This has allowed them to explore and use the wonderful parks and open spaces that are available throughout the city. Often, the family dog is also included in the journey.
Lithgow Council is keen to remind pet owners of their responsibilities, particularly when they visit public places.
Dog owners need to ensure their dogs are restrained in public places, including parks and public footpaths. They are also responsible for cleaning up after their dog.
Prohibited areas for dogs include:
Within 10 metres of children’s play areas. Public food preparation and consumption areas. School grounds and childcare centres. Public bathing areas. Shopping areas. Wildlife protection areas Marjorie Jackson Oval.Dogs are required to be restrained in all public places with the exception of prescribed off-leash areas at:
Endeavour Park, Lithgow Montague Street , Lithgow Lake Wallace, Wallerawang Williwa Street, PortlandPeople can be fearful of unrestrained dogs. Nobody likes stepping around dog droppings or, worse still, missing to do so. Most of our community are responsible, but for those who are not – fines may be issued.
