Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) recently competed at the AAI Central Australia Softball Tournament held in Tennant Creek. CDRC were represented by 30 female players from Anmatjere, Laramba and Engawala.
The three teams were supported by CDRC Youth and Community Safety Patrol Team Leaders, who all met in Ti Tree on Friday. The teams had a quick lunch together then drove three hours up the Stuart Highway to Tennant Creek.
The tournament was made up of seven teams with the other teams coming from Jurnkkurakurr (Tennant Creek) (two teams), Wutunugurra (Epenarra) and Owairtilla (Canteen Creek). Games kicked off on Friday night, then continued right through Saturday. Laramba were undefeated once the minor round games were completed with Anmatjere sitting second (their only loss was at the hands of Laramba on Friday night).
The final between Laramba and Anmatjere was to be a hot contest, with Anmatjere coming away with a win in the grand final, with the score 1-0. The teams enjoyed a barbecue after the final, then photos taken and presentations made to the top three teams.
All three CDRC teams played fiercely and fairly, representing themselves and their communities proudly.
