Yarra City Council is thrilled to announce SEVENTH Gallery as a new Room to Create tenant.
They join a number of other creative organisations supported through Yarra’s Room to Create tenancy program, which provides greater security through long term leases and subsidised rent in council owned buildings.
SEVENTH is a non-profit Artist-Run-Initiative (ARI) gallery run by a volunteer board of artists and arts professionals, with a long history of supporting emerging and underrepresented artists, curators and writers. Their core goal is to champion accessibility and affordability for artists.
After 20 years, this long running Artist Run Initiative (ARI), has relocated from their Gertrude Street premises to 215 Church Street, Richmond. This means that SEVENTH’s diverse and experimental exhibition program, public programs, partnerships with community groups, and its advocacy for emerging new and artists, will continue to contribute significantly to the local cultural terrain in Yarra.
The new space is the former Richmond Maternal Child and Health Services and the rear of the building is currently leased to youth arts organisation and RTC tenant Visionary Images.
SEVENTH’s new space includes three galleries and two studio spaces. The studios will host a series of artist residencies and initiate important partnerships with community groups.
The Room to Create Program encompasses a range of initiatives to help support artists and keep the arts thriving in Yarra. The pressures of increased land value and diminishing availability of space continue to present challenges to arts and cultural creatives and organisations. We are committed to supporting our vibrant, creative arts sector and community through offering support and creative solutions.
