Councillors voting for Mayor and Deputy Mayor
Even though the Council election has been postponed until December, our Councillors must elect a Mayor and Deputy Mayor at our September Council meeting.
I understand this may seem like an unusual thing to do so close to the local government election, but under the NSW Government legislation not even the minister has the power to postpone these Mayoral and Deputy Mayoral elections.
I wanted to let you all know ahead of time and explain why it has to go ahead. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with us.
Farewell to Tabitha Williams
We recently bid farewell to Tabitha Williams, our Coordinator Community Support Programs here at Council. After 17 years, first with Snowy River Council, then with Snowy Monaro, it’s with sadness that we had to say goodbye.
Community services are a vital – and too often uncelebrated – part of our local government area. Working to provide home care, community transport, meals on wheels, and many other services to our most vulnerable community members.
In recent years with bushfires, floods and COVID their services have been needed more than ever. On behalf of everyone at Council, I want to wish Tab the very best for the future. We have been privileged to know and work alongside her for so long. Thanks Tab, for everything you’ve done for us and our community over these last 17 years. Wishing you all the best in your new role.
Community Support
As we head towards an uncertain future, dealing with the ongoing and lasting effects of these troubled times on our local government area, the community support services I mentioned above will only become more essential in providing help and assistance to those that need it most. If you or someone you know is doing it tough, please reach out.
For the readers that may not know, these services are available to support anyone in our region going through a hard time – whatever the reason.
We offer these things not because we have to, but because this Council recognises the importance of helping our community through difficult times.
Library home delivery
In case you hadn’t heard: you can reserve books or other library materials online or over phone, and have them delivered – contact-free – to your door anywhere in the Snowy Monaro.
Please be patient while we work our way out to you. Our hardworking librarians have a huge area to cover.
2020 Youth Awards
We recently announced the winners of the 2020 Snowy Monaro Youth Awards.
Despite really tough circumstances, our kids have really stepped up and done us all proud.
Congratulations to all the winners, full list on our website.
COVID-19 case in Cooma
With the announcement of a positive case of COVID-19 in Cooma, and sewage fragments in Jindabyne and Thredbo, the message from NSW Health and from us is GET TESTED. There are clinics open in Cooma (showground) and Jindabyne (HealthOne) every day.
