Ararat Rural City records high COVID-19 vaccination rate

According to new data released from the Federal Department of Health, Ararat Rural City is one of the leading local government areas in Victoria when it comes to COVID-19 vaccination rates.

More than 64 per cent of our municipality’s residents aged 15 and over have now received their first dose, with 46 per cent having received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Mayor Jo Armstrong is proud of the community for rolling up their sleeves, with vaccination rates in Ararat Rural City higher than the national average.

“It’s great to see a strong rate of uptake for the vaccine, nearly half of our residents have been fully vaccinated,” Cr Armstrong said.

“We’re fortunate that our residents have had good access to the vaccines. This is a credit to the efforts of Ararat’s immunisation providers - Eastern Grampians Health Service, Ararat Medical Centre and Tristar Medical Clinic – for rolling out a seamless vaccination program.

“It’s a collaborative effort that requires dedication from our doctors and nurses, along with our community to do the right thing that has given us these results.

“The pandemic has highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated to protect those around us."

Mayor Jo Armstrong acknowledged the signs were promising but we are still a long way from where we need to be.

"With the National Cabinet announcing a roadmap to opening up in stages once we reach 70% and then 80% of the population fully vaccinated, we all have a responsibility to ensure we get there," Cr Armstrong continued.

"It's important that our community keeps pace by showing we can continue to lead the way with the rollout. If you are still hesitant about getting the vaccine, please speak with your doctor.

"Each of us rolling up our sleeves to get the jab is the best thing we can do to support each other, and is the key to seeing our freedoms return,” she concluded.
