Feedback invited on design options for intersection upgrade

Published on 10 September 2021

Council is seeking community feedback about proposed design options for the intersection upgrade project at Barringo and Hamilton roads in New Gisborne.

Both signalised (traffic lights and pedestrian signals) and roundabout options have been recommended, which take into account the key design considerations– safety, affordability, future proofing, environmental impact, spatial impact and traffic flow.

Both options require a realignment of the Hamilton Road western approach to align with the eastern approach.

The intersection upgrade will be the key gateway to the Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct — a 15-hectare regional park that will provide sport and recreation facilities for the growing Macedon Ranges community.

Mayor, Councillor Jennifer Anderson said both options are designed to improve safety and alleviate congestion as anticipated traffic volumes to the Sports Precinct increase.

“Traffic projections estimate that the amount of vehicles travelling through this intersection is set to double by 2036, highlighting the need to realign and upgrade the existing intersection to help keep motorists, cyclists and pedestrians safe,” she said.

Traffic, road safety and design engineers have been engaged to develop potential upgrade options for the intersection.

All feedback will be presented to Council at a Scheduled Council Meeting later this year.

Submissions are invited until 5pm on Thursday 30 September 2021.
