Nominations for the Volunteer Awards have been extended to October 1 after the awards ceremony was postponed due to COVID-19.
Volunteer Award nominations will be considered across the categories of Community, Cultural, Environment, Event, Health & Social Services, Manager/Supervisor, Tourism, Sporting, Youth, Emergency, and People’s Choice.
Volunteer Working Group Chair, Councillor Marion Browne, said although the postponement was somewhat frustrating, it would provide an extra window for locals to be nominated for recognition.
"We've had a good response so far, and any extra opportunity for more nominations for deserving locals can only be seen as a positive," said Cr Browne
"Volunteers have played a special role throughout the pandemic so we'd ask people to really consider nominees for the Health & Social Services and People's Choice categories."
The awards ceremony was initially scheduled for October, however Cr Browne said a new date would be chosen in the near future.
"Like everyone else we just have to wait and see how the local outbreak develops and keep monitoring restrictions," said Cr Browne.
"As soon as we can set a new date we'll be sure to let everyone know."
