In a world first initiative, an existing Ausgrid streetside kiosk has been transformed into a state-of-the-art electric vehicle charging station.
Council worked closely with the local community to get their thoughts on the technology, and this helped inform Jolt and Ausgrid to determine a suitable location for their first charging station.
The new kiosk located in Bungan Street is fast and free and uses an existing Ausgrid “green box” to support multiple functions.
Customers will be able to sign up via the JOLT app to access 7kWh for free once per day, which takes around 15 minutes to charge. Users looking for more than 7kWh can pay for further energy via the app.
This is one of 500 charging kiosks across the Ausgrid network with the second Mona Vale location becoming operational in the coming months. Further stations around the Northern Beaches are being considered for Freshwater, Forestville and Dee Why.
Recently Council adopted the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Plan which aims to make it easier for Electric Vehicle (EV) take-up by canvassing business models for both private-operated and Council-owned EV charging stations in strategic locations like carparks, on-street sites and at key hubs on the peninsula.
Council is supporting the transition to electric vehicles to transition towards cleaner transport options which will support our ambitious goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2030 – and we’re well on our way!
