The construction of the much-awaited amenities block at Condobolin’s Gum Bend Lake is gearing up to re-start following the lifting of stay-at-home restrictions and lockdowns.
Like thousands of projects across Australia, works on the new facility halted in mid- August and the project has been at a stand-still.
According to Lachlan Shire Council General Manager Greg Tory, the lake project has been impacted in a number of areas including contractor availability, due to the restrictions; and the challenges associated with the supply of building materials.
“Most Councils are in the same situation, in relation to project delivery and our staff are constantly reviewing timelines and schedules to try and ensure the facility is open for the summer ski season.
“While construction crews will be back on-site in the coming days and materials have been delivered to the site, unfortunately the new shower and toilet facility will not be completed prior to the October holiday weekend,” Mr Tory said.
Council acknowledges that Gum Bend Lake attracts significant visitation over this weekend; and as an interim measure, the portable toilets will remain until the completion of the project.
By November, lake users should see a fresh new-modern facility that will enhance this recreational precinct.
