The Moree Community Library will soon take to the road with their new Mobile Services Van.
It will travel to remote areas of the Shire bringing books to the community as well as doubling as a Council customer service platform.
Moree Plains Shire Council’s Community, Culture, and Library Manager Alisa Akins said the introduction of the Mobile Services gives rural and remote residents equitable access to facilities.
“The Community, Culture, and Library team is dedicated to expanding our outreach programs and is currently liaising with schools, village playgroups, and village hall committees to investigate potential partnerships and visits for the Mobile Van”, said Alisa.
Mobile Library Coordinator and driver, Tian Harris, said an itinerary has been created to visit places such as Mallawa, Bullarah, Ashley, Weemelah, Gurley, Boggabilla, Tulloona, Garah, Boomi, Terry Hie Hie, Pallamallawa, and Mungindi.
Tian advised, “The mobile library and customer service facility will give the community greater access to book collections, printing, and WiFi services as well as the ability to make payments like water, rates, and animal registration.
“The Mobile Service Van will also assist the Moree Community Library with the Home Delivery Program on Mondays. At present, the program delivers books and activity packs to 23 participants, including elderly members, schools, aged care facilities, and community service agencies. The number is about to grow.”
The Mobile Services Van has been made possible thanks to a $117,515 Public Library Infrastructure Grant from the NSW Government.
Please keep an eye on Moree Plains Shire Council’s Facebook page for forthcoming Van services and visits.
