Council would like to inform the community with an update regarding the recent liquidation of the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre Ltd (MAAC).
Most businesses have been impacted by the recent NSW lockdown restrictions and Council is no exception, but as we ease out of lockdown(s), Council can start to recommence operational procedures.
Mayor Katrina Humphries is pleased to state that, “Engagement will continue with local business, Wilde Civil to proceed with the clearing and excavating of the Moree Olympic Pool site”.
“Council has engaged with a Project Management Service to ‘get on’ with the designs and attract a good range of tenders for the reconstruction of the Moree Olympic Pool”.
“Unfortunately, there will not be an Olympic Pool operating again this summer. We acknowledge the sadness around this fact for many reasons. However, we do still have operational pools in Boomi and Mungindi to help beat the heat”.
“In the next few weeks Council will again have the responsibility and control of the Moree Artesian Pools as the Receivers wind up their brief. As soon as practicable the working group will advise as to whether the hot pools and wellness area will/can reopen and how this will occur”.
“While this is not the news that our community wants, I will not sugar coat our situation and look forward to being able to brief our community regularly when we get the redevelopment underway,” said Mayor Humphries.
We are aware of the disruption the liquidation has caused to the community and to the many wonderful people who come to Moree to enjoy the comfort of the artesian waters.
