You may have heard that the stay-at-home order was lifted in Yass Valley on Tuesday, 28 September, which is great news for our community and businesses.
However, I want to remind everyone that if you live in Yass Valley and travel to an area of concern where stay-at-home orders remain in place - including the Goulburn Mulwaree, Queanbeyan-Palerang and Hilltops Local Government Areas and ACT - you are subject to stay at home restrictions for 14 days upon return.
For example, if you live in Yass Valley and work in ACT, you must only leave home with a reasonable excuse upon your return.
What’s more, people who live in areas of concern must not travel to Yass Valley unless it is for essential purposes.
While it may be tempting to visit friends and family over the October long weekend, it’s important everyone does the right thing to stop the spread of COVID-19 to Yass Valley and ensure businesses already struggling don’t have to close their doors again.
Police will be enforcing stay at home orders and making sure people visiting Yass Valley over the long weekend aren’t breaching those orders.
We were placed back into lockdown just two days after the stay-at-home order was lifted earlier this month, because of new cases of COVID-19. We do not want this to happen again, so please be responsible by only travelling where permitted, hand sanitising, wearing a mask, checking into venues and social distancing.
Let’s ensure we stay safe and retain our freedoms.
