As part of Council’s ongoing waste education strategy and objective of diverting waste from landfill, a contractor will be conducting surveys of Lithgow City Council’s residential kerbside bin contents in October 2021.
The survey will provide valuable data on waste composition and contamination rates in kerbside bins. This information will then be used to support waste education initiatives and help Council and the community optimise recycling and divert waste from landfill. Collecting information on kerbside bin contents will help improve overall waste management in terms of both environmental benefits and cost effectiveness.
The surveys of randomly selected households will include:
A visual survey of bins presented, such as how full it is and condition of the bins. Bagging and collecting bin contents from the kerbside on the normal waste collection day. Sorting of bin contents at a waste facility into categories for weighing and data collection. Disposal or recycling as usual.Randomly selected properties will have collection take place from the kerbside on the normal bin collection day.
Confidentiality conditions of the project prohibit reporting of any specific details related to any individual household or personal information. The information collected is analysed and reported in an aggregated form.
If you have any concerns regarding the survey please contact Council.
