New playground coming to Parry Park

An exciting new playspace is coming to Parry Park, providing opportunities for residents and visitors of all age groups to connect and play in their own way.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour turned the first sod, today, to mark the start of construction.

Mayor Khal Asfour said he’s excited to see a state-of-the-art playspace be constructed at Parry Park.

“Unique play equipment will be installed at the playground to cater to different ages and ability levels,” Mayor Asfour said.

“The community will absolutely love what we are creating here.”

There will also be a passive lawn area for quiet play overlooking the entire area, as well as picnic shelters, barbecues and a new amenities building, with baby changing facilities.

The new Parry Park Playspace is expected to be complete early 2022, as part of Council’s Open Space Strategy and Open Space Needs Review.

“Parry Park was identified as a prime location for a major recreation destination and sports hub to address the shortage of quality open space in Lakemba,” Mayor Asfour said.

“It is what the community has called for and needed.”

The park, located between Punchbowl Road and Koala Road, is easily accessible by public transport.

“We’ve also recently upgraded Koala Road, to allow parallel parking for those choosing to drive and added four accessible car parking spaces,” Mayor Asfour said

“As part of those upgrades, the footpath was also widened to include a shared path, increasing the accessibility and facilities Parry Park offers.”
