Pakenham’s young people name new youth centre ‘Cardinia Youth Hub’ as tender for construction awarded

Cardinia Shire’s brand-new youth centre will be officially named ‘Cardinia Youth Hub’ thanks to two young people who suggested the name as part of a consultation to name the new complex.

Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Councillor Brett Owen congratulated Lochie and Hector who both suggested the name.

“This is the perfect name for the new youth centre and exciting that young people were able to be part of this project,” Cr Owen said.

“Lochie said he liked Cardinia Youth Hub because it is an inclusive name, for all the programs, services and support for the young people in Cardinia Shire. He also said the new building needed a new name.

“Lochie is most looking forward to the recording studio and having a much bigger centre while Hector is most looking forward to the roof top area and the big kitchen.”

The announcement of the name of the new centre comes after Council awarded the tender for its construction at last night’s Council meeting.

Cardinia Youth Hub will offer programs and services for young people aged 12 to 24, with dedicated training rooms, counselling rooms, a program/group room, a shower and laundry facility, recording booth, computers with internet access and a roof top recreation space.

It will be located on a Council-owned parcel of land on James Street in Pakenham, and is anticipated to open by the end of 2022.

Cardinia Youth Hub will offer services and programs to support young people to build resilience, re-engage in education, build relationships with peers and trusted adults and will give them the ability to access a range of specialist youth services in a timely manner.

Council is also looking for creative and artistically minded young people to work with an artist to create artwork for our new youth hub.

The artwork is to represent our community, our young people and their stories.

Cardinia Youth Hub is a project between Cardinia Shire Council, the Victorian Government and the Australian Government.
