The City of Fremantle is celebrating WA Seniors Week (7–14 November 2021) with an exciting week-long program that celebrates our beloved port city.
‘Ahoy! Fremantle’ invites seniors to ‘cruise’ the streets of Fremantle and enjoy an array of ‘shore excursions and activities’ on offer from tourism operators, local businesses and the City of Fremantle.
There’s lots of events and activities on offer, including walking tours, art exhibitions, free entry to the Maritime Museum, beginners’ parkour, Nyoongar basket weaving, special seniors’ discounts and much more.
The City’s Community Development Officer Dee Skuza encourages Fremantle’s over 55s community to take full advantage of the events and activities on offer during Seniors Week, have fun, learn new skills and meet new friends.
“The idea for Ahoy! Fremantle came about during the planning for Seniors Week where we wanted to include our local tourism operators, community groups and iconic landmarks to offer an experience to our over 55s that promotes being active and social participation,” she said.
“Seniors Week provided us with the perfect opportunity to showcase what we do best in Fremantle and invite our over 55s to ‘cruise’ the streets of our beautiful port city. Just because we can’t set sail on cruises just yet, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy Freo’s very best shore excursions.
“Look out for the Fremantle Volunteer Ambassadors who will be greeting guests at some of the activities. What’s even better is that 95 per cent of our Seniors Week events are free, with either no bookings required or free ticketing due to limited places.”
The full, seven-day program will be available from Monday 1 November at the Fremantle Visitor Centre, located in the Fremantle Town Hall, and online at fremantle.wa.gov.au/positiveageing.
