Hallora Rec Reserve set to shine with Council secured funding

Baw Baw Shire Council has secured up to $150,000 in State funding to support the installation of sports light towers and light fittings for the AFL Oval at the Hallora Recreation Reserve.

A 2018 Shire wide Oval Lighting Audit of recreation facilities found that the quality of lighting at Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) owned facilities, including the Hallora Recreation Reserve, was not equal to the standards of other Council owned facilities across the Shire.

To address the issue, Council has committed to undertaking lighting upgrade projects with its annual Oval Lighting Renewal Program. The Hallora Recreation Reserve was identified as a priority project through this program.

This project will improve the lighting facilities at the Hallora venue by:

Installing 4 new light towers to a height of 27m with light fittings to achieve an average of 100lux. Upgrading electrical cabling and associated infrastructure. Undertaking relevant lux testing and compliance certification.

Chris Wilson, President of the Hallora Junior Football Club welcomed the upgrade to the facility. “This project is really exciting for our club,” said Mr Wilson. “While the current lighting is ok, some of the ground is quite dark, especially in winter. These lighting upgrades will ensure we are able to use the whole ground for training and potentially have night games for junior football”.

The $300,000 project is jointly funded by Council and the State Government and delivered through the Victorian Government’s 2021-22 Country Football and Netball Program.

These upgrades will ensure the Hallora Recreation Reserve is a valuable community asset that will encourage more sport and recreation participation and meet the adapting sporting needs for a growing region.

The project is set to be completed in 2022.

“This is a fantastic outcome for the Hallora sporting clubs. This funding will allow Council to provide much needed lighting to the oval and ensure it is a key local asset for the community. So many people will benefit from this, the existing facility users, the local community, residents and visitors. Overall this is a great result for grassroots sport in Baw Baw and will see benefits for the entire community”.
