The 2021 Christmas pageant could still go ahead with Council seeking interest from businesses and community groups to enter a float.
The fate of this year's pageant had been in the balance due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, however staff are keen to make a late charge to get the event off the ground.
Council's General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said the event could go ahead if sufficient interest is received from the community.
"We know it's a late run to get it all organised, but we're very keen to make it happen if we have enough community groups and businesses on board," he said.
"Restrictions are set to ease significantly from December 1 and we now have staff back on deck to get the event organised.
"We'll push the event back to December 18 to give everyone more time to prepare their floats, but we'd need a commitment of at least 25 floats to make the event worthwhile.
"If anyone out there is interested in taking part, please contact our Events team."
Mayor Darriea Turley AM encouraged businesses and community groups to make a special effort to prepare a float for the benefit of the city's children.
"Kids and families have been locked down for so long with very little to look forward to," said Mayor Turley.
"It would be so special if we could get this event organised and come together as a community as we always do at this time of year.
"I know we've all been through a lot as adults during the COVID lockdown, but let's put in one last big effort for the kids and make this pageant happen."
The Christmas Pageant will be complemented by an afterparty in Sturt Park featuring children's entertainment and a visit from Santa.
