The Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery's celebrated collection is now on show to the world with the launch of a new online platform.
The new online collection features images and information of all works in the gallery's collection, and allows users to search for artworks by artist, title, or medium.
The $400,000 project was funded by CreateNSW through the NSW Government's Regional Cultural Fund, and with the digitisation process and online component taking almost three years to complete.
Mayor Darriea Turley AM praised the work of all gallery staff who had contributed to the project.
"This was a painstaking process that required a remarkable amount of dedication," said Mayor Turley.
"We have over 2000 individual works in our collection and they all had to be carefully photographed, detailed, categorised, and uploaded to the platform.
"We realise nothing compares to viewing an artwork in real life, but this project will put our amazing collection on show to the world and hopefully entice more people to come to the city to view it for themselves."
BHRAG Committee Chair, Councillor Maureen Clark, said the online service would allow locals and visitors alike to explore the city's full collection.
"We have an amazing gallery here in Broken Hill, but despite the size of our building, the reality is that we can only ever display a fraction of our collection at any one time," said Cr Clark.
"This will give people the flexibility to scroll through our entire collection and view and research works that are of particular interest to them.
"It will give people a new avenue to appreciate and connect with the many artistic treasures we are lucky enough to house in our gallery."
