Launching young readers Getting your child school ready

Carrathool Shire Library is excited to announce a new reading challenge for children aged 0-6 years. It’s an early reading program designed to start young children on the road to reading.  It also encourages parents to spend time sharing books with their children whilst building critical early literacy skills before they start school. The program is as simple as it sounds and it is achievable:  If a child reads 3 books a day themselves they will finish is less than a year.  eBooks online, books read at Storytime or Rhyme time, day care, playgroup, or shared by family or friends will count towards the reading milestones, all the way to the 1000 book total.

Children will receive their own library bag once they read their first 25 books.  They will receive an iron-on badge for every 200 books read and a final prize for reaching 1000 books read. To participate children must be a member of the library.  Call into the library anytime to join the library.
