Do you have a dog or cat that share loving companionship with your family? Do your neighbours have pets that give you grief?
Whatever your experience with domestic animals in Corangamite Shire, Council wants to hear from you.
Community members are encouraged to give their feedback on the draft ‘Domestic Animal Management Plan 2021-2025’.
This Plan sets out how Council will manage cats and dogs in the Shire over the next four years. It aims to promote responsible pet ownership and the welfare of animals, while protecting the community and environment from nuisance dogs and cats.
Mayor Ruth Gstrein said animals play a big part in many people’s lives but are also a responsibility.
“The draft ‘Domestic Animal Management Plan 2021-2025’ is a detailed document that explains domestic animal controls and services. It includes facts and figures, and lists current priorities.
“The plan has guidelines for community education and staff training to improve responsible pet ownership.
“We want to work with animal owners to make sure we achieve the best outcomes for pets, their owners and the community.
“Registration and identification, micro-chipping and desexing of pets are fundamental elements of responsible pet ownership.
“All dogs and cats over the age of three months must be registered with the Shire under state law.”
Community members can read the draft and leave comments here or by contacting Community Safety and Resilience Coordinator Belinda Bennett on 5593 7100.
Feedback closes 5pm, Friday 29 October.
